From 28.11.2019 to 06.01.2020 the Winterfest, Austria"s largest festival for contemporary circus, will take place for the 19th time in Salzburg. Renowned circus companies from Canada, France, Australia, Finland and the German-speaking countries will bring the magic of Cirque Nouveau to the Volksgarten with their performances for six weeks.
Cirque Alfonse will provide an energetic opening with their piece "Tabarnak", which invites to a celebration of daring acrobatics and folkloric-rock music. In CIRCA"s "Peepshow", circus, cabaret and burlesque merge to create a glamorous performance that skilfully plays with our expectations and viewing habits. Between flying bathtubs and dancing refrigerators, Cie Akoreacro"s 11-strong ensemble tells of the seemingly banal everyday life of a couple. The exceptional talent Thom Monckton turns his hands and his expressive face into the stage of the action in a hilarious solo performance. In Raven, the artists of still hungry invite us to question clichés and preconceptions about motherhood.
Away from the circus ring, the Winterfest offers many other exciting events: Literature matinees, concerts, exhibitions, film afternoons and circus workshops make the festival a fascinating overall experience. The culinary offerings, which range from a cosy get-together at the Trapezbar to a multi-course dinner in our winter garden, round off the visit to the Winter Festival.
