In the immediate vicinity of Salzburg, the pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard is certainly one of the most interesting buildings in terms of art and cultural history.
The church was first mentioned in a document in 1407, but its foundation dates back to the beginning of the 13th century. Originally it was consecrated to St. George, later St. Leonhard was added. Due to his great devotion, pilgrimages flourished in the 18th century and the church was richly endowed with gifts - many votive offerings remind of this.
